Blues in Schools

Blues in Schools is an educational outreach program of the Carolina Blues Preservation Society designed to introduce students to the rich history, cultural significance, and musical traditions of the blues. Through interactive presentations, live performances, and hands-on learning experiences, the program connects young people with one of America’s most influential art forms while exploring its roots in African American history and culture.

The program brings professional musicians, educators, and cultural practitioners into schools, community centers, and youth organizations to demonstrate the evolution of blues music and its lasting impact on genres such as jazz, rock and roll, country, R&B, gospel, and hip-hop. Students learn about the social and historical contexts that shaped the blues, including themes of resilience, creativity, storytelling, and community.
